Well the family and I finally made it back down to the area.  I was jones-ing pretty bad to hit the water and let my two oldest boys catch some fish.  I booked a trip with Capt. Nicky with Inshore Angler Charters out of Destin and boy am I glad I did.

I told Capt. Nicky that all I was interested in was my boys catching fish.  This was a trip for them and I wanted them to have fun.  The WX was terrible, SE wind 20-30 and heavy chop in the bay.  We hit a little spot close to the marina that was loaded up with white trout.  The boys had a blast for a good 45 minutes reeling in white's on almost every cast.  Capt. Nicky said it was time to go and boat some reds so off we went.

We ran about 20 miles from the marina to some of his spots and with the first cast my 7 year old landed his first keeper red.  It was a sight that brought a smile to my face and an even bigger one to his.  He had a tough time reeling it in but Capt. Nicky coached him like a pro.

A few casts later we had another strong hit and we missed him.  2 more strong hits and both misses so we pulled up and headed to another spot.  This time it was my 10 year olds luck that was running high.  The lines were wet for all of 5 minutes before he got a huge hit.  It about pulled the rod out of his hand but thanks to Capt Nicky I did not have to buy him a new rig.  5 minutes later a big 30-32" red was in the boat.  Snapped a quick picture and sent her back over the side.

My 7 year old landed another slot and I finally decided to pick up a rod.  Well, as fate would have it, I had 3 hits within 10 minutes and I missed 'em all.  Circle hooks....still trying to get used to the idea of not having to set the hook.  Oh well.

We head out for another spot and caught 3 or 4 shorties and I finally landed a slot and so did my older son.

It was time to head back so we loaded up for the long WINDY ride back.

The trip was awesome and Capt Nicky produced for us on a day that was not great for fishing.  He was a real pro and I would recommend him for anyone interested in some good inshore fishing in Destin.

THAT IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT! Building those memories for a lifetime! Great to be able to find a boat captain that truly enjoys taking kids out fishing! Kudos to all involved!
