| What category storm does it take to make to pack up and leave? When I lived is Elsanor Al well away from tidal surge we would not leave town unless it was a cat4...If it looked like it was gonna stay a cat3 or less we would stay.

If you are gonna leave, better leave early. All the roads out get clogged at the last minute, and you would be better off to stay instead of sitting in traffic stranded.

We stayed home over here on the end of a canal near the south side of Garcon Point Bridge during Ivan; it was pretty hairy, but didn't quite get flooded, other than a couple inches in the garage. Like a dumbass we took off for Dennis. That was a huge waste of time and money. I'm not planning to go anywhere for anything less than Cat 4.

| I know of two of us who rode out Hurricane Ivan on our boats. Not reccommended for everyone! If you want to be part of a discussion about hurricane prep and listen to two old Marines who saved their boats talk about their adventure, join us at West Marine, 3500 Barrancas, Tuesday June 30 at 7 PM. " Aw sh-t, I've done worse than this and people were shooting at me." Leaving is a poor choice, unless your house is less than 13 feet above mean high tide. Of course a Katrina will still get you. I don't plan on leaving town for anything. It's more trouble leaving and coming back. I will leave my house if it looks like a direct hit of a CAT 4 or bigger. I live in Garcon Point. Our house did not come close to flooding in Ivan. But it probably will flood if a CAT 4 storm comes right up East Bay. I would just go to a family members house in town if I thought we might flood. We are considered the last flood plain. We are required to have flood insurance, but my neighbor does not.

| I stayed during Opal and Erin and went to Tallahassee to stay with friends before Ivan and Dennis. I enjoyed it a lot more sitting around in the AC drinking beer and watching the weather channel with friends than being curled up in the fetal position in sweltering heat with no power listening to trees hit the ground. I went over to Tallahassee late at night and came back a couple days later early in the morning. No problem at all. Cat 3 or better, I'll do it again in a heartbeat.

Tom that would be interesting... i live on the icw and am about 21 ft above sea level...ivan surged about 12 ft...had 2 boards come off and lost the dock as well as everyone else out there...we have shutters now...other than that, no problems so, i'm staying no matter...

Live north of I-10 in Pensacola so needless to say, not leaving.
We do have to worry about the damn tornodos though. During Ivan had one clear a 1/2 mile path of trees about 100 yards west of the house. Damndist thing I've ever seen. Looked like some crazy bastard with a chainsaw dropped trees in all direction. All grown up and still a mess today. You could'nt get through those woods if your life depended on it.

| Lived here 16 years and never left. I was in Orlando attending a class when Opal hit though. Had I been in town I would have stayed. Between the house and business I have to much to look out for after a storm passes. If you do choose to leave, leave early. Don't wait til it is 100 miles south in the Gulf. You will have a hard time getting out, finding gas, finding a place to stay within 200 miles. And then you will have to deal with getting back, if there is severe damage.

| How far away do you guys go when you evacuate?...I've heard and seen personally the damage well inland that a hurricane can do...I know some folks are limited on cash and cannot go too far but what is a safe distance in your book to get away if you decide to go?

If you are and are talking about evacuating from there, you have a long drive to get away.Yep...In central Fl at this time, hope to be living in Lower Alabama again by August.....It sure would be a heck of a drive to get anywhere safe from this point...Its 500 miles just to get to Mobile from here...I'd hate to have to fight the traffic on 75 and I-10...This area is not ready for a major storm at all....Too many people and not enough emergency personnel here for one...I think looting and mayhem would be daily here after a category 4 or 5...I dont want to be witness to it.

| I have never received a blow job from a Hurricane or a Himacane yet. I saw what Andrew did in South Florida, and I saw what Hugo did in the Carolina's. I never, ever, ever want to experience that type of wind and tornados. Erin, Opal, Ivan, and Katrina well all small potatoes when it comes to high winds. The tornado will kill you in a heart beat!!!

| i live near whitting field the trees where a bitch, on 6 acres we had over 150 trees down took over 6 hrs to cut our way out ,fema screwed up and said to just get trees to road, got a bobcat and drug the whole tree out there, didnt cut much. but havent left for one.
