Went out to Pensacola beach this after noon to try for pompano. I got some gulp sandfleas gulp baby shrimp and some fresh shrimp from reel fun tackle. They also had a good looking 706 for sale I think he was gonna post it on here. Anyway headed out to the beach got there at 130 and walked west til 215 trying to get away from people and find a good looking spot. I found a little point that looked like it had a bad rip current going diagonally out and it looked kind of like a tide line with waves breaking against each other so decided to stop. I set up and put out my 2 rods with pomp rigs. After a few min my baitrunner slowly started taking drag so I pull in two huge crabs. Re rig and cast to look over to my other rod bent over in the spike. Ran over there and nothing was on. Felt a bite that felt like a snapper so I set the hook like it was a snapper. Pull in a completely white redfish with at 20". Re rig and get my 2 rods back out. The tide turned or something and sargassum was fouling up my lines. Casted my jig for a little bit longer and decided to hurry back to the car and get out on the pier before it got dark to see if I could get a bonita to pull some drag. I was one of the 4 fisherman out there and the only one fishing. The others said they hadnt caught anything except for one dude who said he caught a couple sharks a spanish and a redfish earlier in the day. Everyone was packing up and I see a school of bonita and I cast and get hooked up for about 30 seconds. Walked up and down and didnt see anything else and decided to go. I couldnt fish the first bar because surfers were stacked up on the east and west side. Why can't yall move down a little ways? (someones gonna get mad at that )
Anyways still havent caught my first pompano. Feel free to share tips.

Good report. Glad I didn't head out, apparently I didn't miss much. As for the surfers, give'em the west side but fish the east. Get close but just try not to hit them. They are not supposed to surf between the yellow poles which run from The Dock to the about the old bank on the west. Surfers are a great way to test your aim.

| This is not the best time to fish for Pomps, but I have had luck at P-Beach with white and grey and just white gulp sand flees. Good luck - and remember - a bad day fishing is better than a good day working for the man!
