to the beach at 9am.. foggy lead to beautiful day within an hr...  perfect Pompano conditions..  plenty of fleas..

took a while to figure out the fish..  small ones were out deep in the holes..  larger ones (2)14" and a 15'r were caught on the flats adjacent and W of the holes..  I moved a good bit to find the fish... also did a good bit of wading...  thank goodness it was warm.

Bonito were feeding in schools from about noon..  often in a frenzied wave action while swimming on their sides..  quite a sight..

I will give the fish a rest tomorrow..  suspect the waves will subside more..

What size weights are you using and were you suggesting it would be too rough tomorrow?

3:30 pm down east a ways from Portofino only one good bite for me...spit the hook; however, the guy right next to me was hooping and hollering while catching 7 nice pomps between 4-4:30...he gave me one and kept his limit...thanks for the snack as I baked him whole and picked down to the bones chased a by a cold one.

We were both using dead shrimp pulling the heads off leaving the shell and 3 oz pyramid but he was using a circle hook and i was using a three drop pomp rig from wally world...I should've taken his advice and switched but figured the pomps would move my way sooner or later.NOT! oh well it was a beautiful afternoon to be on the beach.

did you peal the shell off?  pompano for some reason  likes it easy...even better when is  dead "fresh".  I caught three this afternoon on sand fleas though.  Good report and thanks for sharing.  I still have to see  6 pompanos in my cooler.

My shrimp was definitely not dead fresh...purchases at the store across the street from Jeronimos Liquor...forgot to stop at GBBT damn!!! also tried used those larger Gulp fleas...I peeled to start with but the successful guy next to me said he always leaves the shell on so it last longer on his hook...made sense and he was catching so I followed suit. The area we were fishing was full of shells and no sand fleas in my rake...just shells..I walked quite a distance but couldn't locate an area without all those tiny shells..

May try again tomorrow! I did scout earlier down by Pickens and met a couple of anglers with many poles with bells on their rod tips but all remain silent by noon...they said notta pomp bite all morning just one whiting so I decided to head to my spot east of Portofina...great wash outs and a wash out just behind a sandbar is where sucessfull man caught his. He said this was the second day in a row he fish this area and second day he caught good fish..Day before slot reds and one pomp he said.
