I had a late start this morning. Walked east and spotted a good stretch of thousands of cool shells washed in by the mini storm days before. That area marked my spot (deep water). It was a fantastic morning with the right winds (NNW), tide coming in, perfect. Water was somehow murky in certain areas, and for the most part flat shallow. I spend the morning looking left and right for some rip currents, I moved a few times till finally I saw some birds feeding on something way out there. Set the kite to a fast angle wind and sent it out a good 400+ ft. dropped 7 hooks shrimp baited (one line, one rod). I was just expecting something to grab it. When fishing with 12lb mono the memory of the line in it self at such a distance can be tricky. I saw the tip of my rod move some but nothing like when using braided. Fish ON. pompano rig style, 15 lb leader with 7 hooks ,5oz sinker, and a monster red trying to stretch the %$#@ out of the mono line, let him run for a while, then easily reel 'm in 10 ft at the time. I knew my line and hook were almost maxed out so I took it easy. Nice fight, one of the best so far from the surf. There was a family there picking some shells as I fought the fish, landed it and some pictures were taken(with their camera)The lady was nice to ask for my e mail, if sent I'll post it. In the pm, right at sunset I deployed the kite again ad managed a pompano 16". 4 hook pompano rig this time , sweet.
