My VHF has been wet to the point of projecting under water sounds (gargled like) but always returns to normal after a drying period...well my luck has run out with sound but radio still appears ok but speaker sound is faint like from a far away distance (turn up the volume)...can the speaker be replace? or is it even worth the cost?

Probably not worth messing with. I would replace it. Only way to find out is to open it up and see if you really really want to. I personally wouldn't.

I Value your opinion Double "D" & LV as this is not the first time you have added/contributed value info directly with good results...I'm going to Georges Marine Electronics tomorrow to replace GPS fastener and maybe to seek advice on speaker replacement but not looking to spend alot of $$$$...I have a replacement VHF on hand but just wanted to know if trying to fix old one was worth it...I'll let you know what George's advice is...thanks for your response Much Appreciated!

Thanks again!

Jimmy

Does your vhf have the ability to add an external speaker? Mine basic apelco does so I would bet yours did too - that may be an inexpensive option - I think I have one of the small external speakers you can have if it will work (and I can find it)

sidetrack,

great option there..i'll have to check and thanks for the offer...as far as "if i can find" i know what you mean..but still sounds like a solution if my radio as that option...don't want to have to remount brackets/additional holes etc to replace with my newer one inherited from a former boat...

Thanks

Jimmy
