i have a Johnson 25 2002 model motor. i put it on the aluminum boat today to go down the river farther than what i usually do and when we first started off the motor would start going then just rev up. almost like "the clutch was slipping in a truck". well it did it just a few times and after that it ran like a champ for thirty minutes. could it had been the trash, leaves, etc in the water making it do this. i just need to know what needs to be looked at.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I have had clumps of seaweed build up on the leading edge of the foot blocking and interupting water flow to the prop letting it cavitate.

If your motor straightened itself out on it's own, I doubt you have a problem. Make sure it is passing water from the "Piss tube" behind the coweling and maybe check your prop hub for signs of slipping.

If you run far from the trailer, a spare prop and tools to change it might be a good idea.

 Good luck

WOW!!!!! WHAT A RIDE.

Like Snagged Line stated, sea weed or grass is probably the cause of the symptom you described.  Once the prop hub slips, it will continue to slip in all but the lowest RPMs.  There is no way that you'll come out of the hole with a slipping hub.   Also, good advice on the need of a spare prop.
